Volunteer for the 2015 Pan Am Games

Dear my readers,

I haven’t had much time to spare! I haven’t kept my promise of posting weekly at all.

But I come bearing gifts!

Okay, I absolutely hate it when people make opportunities that don’t pay us for what they’re worth. Internships should be paid. If you don’t pay us, are you really giving us any value in life? And in the same way, are you sure people would be doing their best in an unpaid job?

But I digress. If you live in Ontario, you may probably heard of the Pan Am games. They’re a precursor to the summer Olympics in the Americas.

They opened a volunteer drive on April 7, and recruitment is ongoing for the duration of the Pan Am and Parapan games. I suggest you check it out, whether you’re old or young. Why?

  1. If you’re a full time student/graduating full time student (at the time), you get OSAP relief. This is pretty much one of the only times you’ll get relief if you’re volunteering. I wish they’d change the rules because a lot of people had unpaid internships after they graduated. But oh well.
  2. The games take place in other areas other than Toronto. Off the top of my head, I can think of the Velodrome in Milton, and rowing venues in St. Catharines and Welland.
  3. You’ll meet so many people you haven’t met before. Seriously, everyone comes out of the woodwork for these events. I know I do.
  4. It’ll be an experience of a lifetime. International sports. Athletes. TV crews. You’ll get to see the inside workings of organized and competitive sports.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve got experience in anything. It only matters if you want to help out for the games.
